Abbadia Ardenga, a winery which is part of the history of Brunello di Montalcino, is extremely special and definitely worth visiting, not only for its products but also for its outstanding charm. The estate has a very long history, having belonged to the powerful Piccolomini family - whose members included Pope Pius II, responsible, among other things, for the construction of the town of Pienza - from the 15th century. The noble family used Abbadia Ardenga as its own wine cellar.
In 1902, Abbadia Ardenga received its first important award for wines matured for over a year, which was dedicated to estates which were already exporting their products outside of Italy.
The estate as we know it today was renovated in 1934 with the update of its Statute.
