Supplementary press release on seizure of wine bottles falsely labelled as Brunello di Mo

30/05/2014

Montalcino – 29th May 2104 –Following today’s press conference held in Siena on the seizure – conducted by the Carabinieri of the Siena operational department with the support of the Florence ICQRF (Central Inspectorate for Quality Monitoring and Fraud Repression) – of wine bottles falsely labelled as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti and Sagrantino, the Chairman of the Consortium of Brunello di Montalcino wine, Fabrizio Bindocci, further commented on how “the total lack of involvement of the producers and the territory has clearly and unequivocally emerged. The entire issue took place far from Montalcino and the key players have nothing to do with the world of wine and the DOCG territory. They set up a supply chain to fraudulently exploit the trust acquired over the past decades by those who focused every effort on quality and transparency. Even the label of the wine introduced on the market is a pure invention, and likewise the name of the estate, which was pulled out of the air. Clearly, it has no connection with our territory. This affair damages not only us, as a great international wine brand, but also high quality Italian production as a whole.”
