BRUNELLO CONSORTIUM: AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER FERZAN OZPETEK SIGNS THE BENVENUTO BRUNELLO 2024 TILE

Montalcino (Siena), 30 October 2024. Ferzan Ozpetek will be the author of the commemorative tile for the 33rd edition of Benvenuto Brunello, scheduled in Montalcino from 14 to 18 November. Today, the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino announced that the signing of the prestigious tile for the 2024 vintage will be by the renowned writer, screenwriter, theatre and film director.

“Adding to our register of Benvenuto Brunello tiles, we are honoured to welcome the one by Ferzan Ozpetek, multi-faceted and multi-awarded director,” declares Consorzio President Fabrizio Bindocci. “For the first time, Brunello di Montalcino unites with the artistic career of one of the most acclaimed creators on the international film scene.”

Ferzan Ozpetek will present the tile on Saturday 16 November at the Teatro degli Astrusi in Montalcino (11:45 a.m.), as part of an event hosted by the deputy editor of the Corriere della Sera, Luciano Ferraro. This will be followed by the traditional laying on the historic walls of the Palazzo Comunale.

 

 

Breve biografia Ferzan Ozpetek.

Born in Istanbul in 1959, he moved to Rome in 1976. His directorial debut came with Steam: The Turkish Bath (1997), selected for the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. His subsequent films - among other important titles The Ignorant Fairies (2001), Facing Windows (2003), Loose Cannons (2010), Saturn in Opposition (2006), Magnificent Presence (2012) and The Goddess of Fortune (2019) – have achieved astonishing box-office results and received prestigious awards, among which the David di Donatello, Nastro d’Argento, Ciak and Globo d’Oro. In 2008, the MOMA in New York honoured the director with a lavish solo exhibition. In 2011, he directed his first opera, Aida, a success replicated the following year with La Traviata and in 2019 with Madama Butterfly, both at Teatro San Carlo of Naples. In May 2019, he was at the Venice Art Biennale with the video installation Venetika, repeated in 2022 at the MAXXI Museum in Rome, while in January 2020 he directed the theatrical adaptation of his eponymous film Loose Cannons, recently returned on national tour. For the 2024 season, he will direct the stage adaptation of another of his successful films, Magnificent Presence. Ozpetek has published four best-selling novels for Mondadori (Rosso Istanbul, Sei la mia vita, Like a Breath and the most recent Cuore nascosto). Diamanti, his fifteenth film starring no less than 18 Italian actresses, set in the 1970s and the present day, arrives in Italian cinemas on 19 December 2024.
