Montalcino (Siena), 12 November 2024. Countdown to the 33rd edition of Benvenuto Brunello, the preview dedicated to the prince of Tuscan reds by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, bringing journalists, buyers, operators and wine lovers from Italy and around the world to Montalcino, from Thursday to Monday, 14-18 November. This year, christened in the glasses, there will be Brunello 2020, Riserva 2019, as well as Rosso di Montalcino 2023 and the other two wines of the designation, Moscadello and Sant’Antimo.

With 126 wineries and over 500 labels ready for sampling, the curtain rises on the tastings with over 100 Italian and foreign journalists and critics, swirling their glasses in the Cloister of Sant’Agostino in the Tuscan village, Thursday to Friday, 14-15 November. The programme continues on Saturday 16 November (10:30 a.m.) at the Teatro degli Astrusi, with the focus “What future for wine consortia?” conducted by Corriere della Sera Deputy-Editor Luciano Ferraro, featuring the participation of presidents Albiera Antinori (DOC Bolgheri and DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia), Sergio Germano (Barolo. Barbaresco, Alba, Langhe, Dogliani), Giovanni Manetti (Chianti Classico), Christian Marchesini (Valpolicella) and Vice-President Graziano Nicosia (Etna). This will be followed by the evaluation of the 2020 vintage, on sale beginning January 2025, the awarding of the Leccio d’Oro prize and the traditional unveiling of the Brunello tile, this year signed by multi-award-winning filmmaker Ferzan Ozpetek, who will be present in Montalcino. At the same time, the Cloister will return to tradition with the opening to the public of tasting counters hosted by the producers. The walk-around tastings with the wineries will then continue on Sunday to Monday, 17-18 November.

This year, Benvenuto Brunello also provides for masterclasses. The first appointment, set for Saturday 16 November, is conducted by DoctorWine Daniele Cernilli, director and editor of Guida Essenziale ai Vini d'Italia. Masterclasses continue on Sunday 17 November, with a focus led by Master of Wine Andrea Lonardi (both events by paid reservation). Closing on Monday 18 November, will be the tasting led by wine expert Francesco Saverio Russo - reserved for starred restaurants and haute hôtellerie.
